Record, edit and caption, in one Mac app.
Oil Studio is a native Mac screen recorder and editor. The camera pushes in on your clicks, the cursor glides without jitter and subtitles are transcribed on your Mac. When you record a voice-over, just talk: one click afterwards removes the pauses, fillers, retakes and slips. Your AI agent can take over the edit too, or record a demo by itself.
RecordRecord
A full display, a window or an area, plus camera, microphone and system audio. Pause mid-take; a second take is appended automatically.
EditEdit
Trim, speed, zoom and camera layouts all live on the timeline. Preview and export share one renderer, so frame, camera and captions match exactly.
ExportExport
MP4 up to 4K 60 fps in H.264 or HEVC, or GIF. Burn subtitles into the picture or save them as SRT.
The camera goes where you click.
Every click and move is captured while you record. In the editor the camera springs toward the click and eases back out when you are done; near the edge it snaps so the frame never leaves the recording. The cursor is redrawn from its path: jitter removed, motion smoothed, fading out when it rests.
- The zoom block is the camera.Drag its start and end, change the factor or the centre, and the frame under the playhead updates at once.
- Cuts are not harsh.Every cut gets an audio crossfade, the cursor and camera ease across it, and the picture can dissolve or gently push in.
- Motion blur.Camera moves and fast cursors get real motion blur, identical in the 60 fps preview and the export.

Finish talking, and the cut is done.
What eats time in a voice-over recording is pauses, retakes and filler words. Oil Studio transcribes on your Mac first, then cuts on word boundaries. Auto cleanup marks every pause and filler, and one button removes them all; AI fine cut reads the whole transcript, finds retakes, slips and abandoned sentences, and lists them as a plan for you to confirm. Both work from what you say, so they are made for voice-over recordings. Zoom blocks and the playhead move to their new places, and ⌘Z undoes it in one step.
Cut the video by reading the transcript.
The caption list is the cutting table: select a sentence or a run of them, press ⌘⌫, and that stretch of video and captions is gone. Cuts land on word boundaries and snap to silence, never into a neighbouring word. Retakes and abandoned sentences disappear after one read-through.
- Fillers grouped by word.“um” and “uh” go by default; “like” and “so” are sometimes part of the sentence, so they stay unless you say otherwise.
- Captions follow the edit.Cut sentences leave the captions; undo brings them back with your edits, translations and chapters intact.
- AI fine cut, built in.Sign in with an Oil account and press Start; usage is billed in credits. The fine cut runs in the cloud and sends only the transcript and the frames and audio snippets it needs to check; your recordings and projects stay on your Mac. Or hand it to your own Claude Code or Codex.
Your AI agent knows Oil Studio too.
Install once, and agents like Claude Code or Codex can find your projects, read the transcript, propose a fine cut, proofread captions, add chapters and export. Every change arrives as a proposal, you watch the progress in the app, and nothing applies until you confirm. One-step undo, always.
Say it once
“Cut the retakes”, “add chapters”, “translate the captions”: the agent finds the project, reads the transcript and works out the plan.
Review before it applies
The agent cannot touch project files. Every change it proposes is listed in the app; untick what you don't want and confirm the rest.
Local interface
A command line and a local socket, all JSON. Any agent that can run a command can use it, with no cloud service in between.
It can record a demo by itself.
Once you allow it, the agent can pick a window, start recording, drive the app it is recording and save the take as a project. A recording indicator stays on screen the whole time and you can stop it at any moment. Afterwards it finds the idle stretches between steps, with no input, no change on screen and no voice, removes them and exports. Writing docs or shipping a release? Let the agent make the demo video while it is at it.
Fast exports, small files.
Exports run on the Apple silicon hardware encoder, and preview and export share one GPU render chain. Bitrate is computed from pixels and frame rate rather than a fixed number, so a video that looks just as sharp is a lot smaller on disk.
1080p60 export speed
Measured on M-series chips; the bottleneck is decoding the source. 4K60 runs at about 1.5×, limited by the hardware encoder.
4K60 standard bitrate
A 12-minute 4K60 export is under 900 MB. Compact and high tiers are available, and HEVC shrinks it further.
Preview frame rate
1080p preview reads the original footage with no proxies; drag the playhead and the frame keeps up.
Memory budget while editing
For a 15-minute project with captions, waveforms and filmstrips. Editing, exporting and recording never creep up over time.
Captions, voice and camera, all on-device.
Speech recognition, voice enhancement, skin smoothing and the avatar all run on this Mac: audio and footage never leave it, and they work without a network.
On-device captions
A large Whisper model runs on your Mac and handles mixed languages and technical terms. Captions follow the edit; cut sentences vanish. Burn them in on export or save SRT.
Voice and music
Removes air-con hum, keyboard clatter and room noise; loudness levelling keeps the whole take even, and holding ⌥ compares with the original. Six background tracks are included, or import your own; the music ducks whenever you speak.
Skin smoothing and avatar
Camera smoothing touches skin only, never eyes or mouth. Rather not show your face? Swap in an avatar that follows your head, opens its mouth as you speak and blinks.
Teleprompter
Your script floats next to the camera and scrolls with your speech, or at a steady pace, or by hand. It is never captured in the recording.
Wallpapers and frame
56 original wallpapers in eleven series, or any wallpaper already on this Mac. Corner radius, padding, shadow and background blur live in one panel.
Camera layouts
Corner, side by side or full frame, switched per time range with smooth transitions. When the camera pushes in, the webcam shrinks out of the way.
Compared with the recorder you use today.
Auto zoom and pretty backgrounds are table stakes now. Oil Studio differs in the second half: how a voice-over gets cut, where captions come from, whether AI actually helps, and what you pay for it.
